Estamos de volta.../And we are back....

O barco virou realmente nossa casa, pois ficamos literalmente 5 dias (4 noites) MORANDO no barco: todas as refeições, banho e ate mesmo dormir...no barco!!

Good Evening all!

I write from Manaus airport, the students are waiting for the flight home, so while we wait I'll tell you about the days we spent on board of two boats that took us over the last five days of travel to places unimaginable in the middle of the Amazon jungle. It certainly was the achievement of a dream for many!

The last time I wrote we were in Manaus at the hotel getting ready for the beginning of our great adventure! 10 km navigating in our house (boat) down Negro River, we arrived at the meeting of the waters, which is surely an amazing phenomenon! The boat actually turned our house because we were literally 5 days (4 nights) LIVING on the boat, all meals, bathing and even sleeping….on the boat! We stopped next at January Ecological Park, where we found the "Vitorias-Régias" Lake, a plant also known as the Queen of the Lakes. This plant is really beautiful and it is the symbol of the Amazon! At night we slept in our new beds, the hammocks! As the boat runs on generator power, around 23:00 the lights are out and you see yourself there, lying in a hammock in the middle (literally) of the Amazon jungle. It's really an unexplainable experience.

On Tuesday we did the course in jungle survival! We woke up early, divided the group into two smaller and began our walk through the jungle with instructors from the Army. For six hours we learn from them how to survive, make fire, traps, get food and water. In the end, we had to make our food and see if what we learned really worked! In the afternoon we went swimming with pink dolphins! Everyone took lots of pictures, filmed and were very excited! Certainly a unique experience!

On Wednesday we visited an Indian community, and understand a little more about their daily life! At night we went out in canoes to observe the night life of the Amazon: we hold alligators in our hands and had a quiet time in the middle Rio Negro, totally in the dark to reflect on what we can do now and in the future to preserve this place so wonderful!

Yesterday we went out to fish, and of course we ate what we fished! At night, the last of the trip, we had a wonderful luau at a small beach, with a whole infrastructure set, barbecue and plenty of excitement! After a lot of music and dance on the boats, we went to bed pretty tired.

Today we woke up later and started our journey back here. Soon everyone will catch flights to their host cities.

I would like to REALLY REALLY thank all the students for the nice trip! Nininha…I’ll miss you!! I would also like to thank our Chaperone couple Eduardo and Dalmara (District 4610), for being really kind and nice with us and for helping us to take care of the students. Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart! And of course, I want to thank Rotary International for the opportunity that we have to be in such an enjoyable mission, which is to show our wonderful BRAZIL to the exchange students!

I'll stay here waiting for the second group that arrives tomorrow, and I will again have the pleasure of taking them to explore this wonderful region!!

Thank you very much for the attention! Hugs and see you in next adventure!!
